I am a Wysong believer and I trust your advice with confidence.  I have 2 adult 5 yr old labs that are in peak condition due to the variety of diet I feed that I purchase from Wysong, both canned and dry food.  I also have an 11-month-old female that I plan on breeding that is doing great on your food - both growth until she is 1 year old on April 1st and also a variety of all of your canned meat products are fed.

I recently purchased a male lab pup from the same breeder as I did the 11-month-old female.  Since I have had him home I took him to the vet as he was unfortunately exposed to some type of ant killer from the hotel we stayed in.  He was on two antibiotics for 10 days, then my vet put him on one 250 mg of Primor for another 10 days as he was still having problems.  I have had him on growth formula plus a complete variety of your canned food as I purchased every kind and provide my dogs with a rotation of canned food just like clock work.

I am concerned as the male lab pup, Duffy, has a low HCT (24%) and a low HGB (7.6 g/dl) and has since I brought him home.  I feed him canned meat and growth formula for breakfast and dinner and growth formula and vanilla yogurt for lunch.  He gets one cup of dry kibble with each meal.

The vet has prescribed VAL syrup for him at 6ml per day until I went to him this Monday, March 27, where by he prescribed per weight 2 teaspoons per day.  I am very concerned as his tests from when I got home and when he was retested on March 27th as administering the prescribed dosage  of VAL had no change in his blood test of both the HCT and HGB.  Please advise me of what you would suggest me feeding or supplements or amounts of dry versus canned food for him.  I am planning on breeding him with the female I purchased from the same reputable kennel in Gardnerville, NV.  The vet here gave me two more bottles of VAL Syrup for him to finish - is there anything else I could or should be doing for him?

Thank you, in advance, for any recommendations you can provide!!!  I hold your advice in high regard, my other labs are of the utmost health, perfect weight and have excellent muscle tone and appearance, people everywhere I go ask me my secret - it is Wysong as far as I am concerned!!!

Thank you for your letter.  It is hard for us to give specific medical advice but we will try to help as we can.

First, be sure there is not some underlying parasitic problem such as hookworms or blood protozoa.  Just check with your veterinarian to be sure these have been screened.

We note that you are doing well rotating diets but it does not appear you are taking advantage of the full Optimal Health Program.  Go to The Wysong Optimal Health Program™ and read this carefully and do your best with trying to follow it.  There is no better nutritional support than this since it most closely mimics the genetic expectation of the pup.
