Dog coats for dogs: how to take care of your pet this winter
The winter can be a challenging season for everyone. Roads become slick, snow has to be shoveled and there is a biting cold that fills the air. While the road surface and shoveling don't affect your dog, frigid temperatures can have a big impact on your pet's health. If you're interested in making sure your pet is healthy and happy this winter, here are some things you can do besides shop for dog coats for dogs.
Make the house his castle. If your dog is an indoor dog, try to limit his time outside on hazardously cold days to nothing more than bathroom breaks. If your pet is an outdoor dog, a snug, insulated dog house is a great idea because it allows him to benefit from his own body heat.
Make sure water is available. Cold temperatures can dry out your pet's skin so make sure he has plenty of water. If your dog is an outside dog, choose a dark-colored, deep, rubber dish. This type of dish is more likely to prevent your dog's water from freezing and will save him from freezing his tongue to a metal bowl.
Up the calories. Your pet will burn more calories during the winter trying to maintain his body temperature. Increasing his calorie count and feeding your pet a nutrient-dense, healthy diet like Wysong's Archetype™ is a great way to offset any loss.
Shop for dog coats for dogs. If your pet is not used to cold temperatures or if you have a short-haired dog, a warm coat or sweater could be just the trick for frigid conditions.
