What is Enterococcus faecium?

Enterococcus faecium is a species of bacteria that resides in the gastrointestinal tract of most living things. The bacteria is vital to the process of breaking down dietary ingredients consumed by the host.

Enterococcus faecium is gaining attention in the pet food market for its use as a probiotic. As more and more consumers demand biologically appropriate pet food products, probiotics like Enterococcus faecium will play a greater role. (Probiotics are present in the natural carnivorous diet, but lacking in most conventional pet foods.)

The popularity of Enterococcus faecium is well founded. Studies of pets and livestock have shown these animals to enjoy better health and – in the case of cows – higher milk yields when their diets are supplemented by probiotics.

Enterococcus faecium and other probiotics are also gaining popularity because they offer health benefits and sickness recovery properties without the downsides associated with conventional medications.

Probiotics, such as Enterococcus faecium, have been used by humans for more than 25 years and their benefits have been recognized by the European Union, the United States, the FDA, AAFCO and in numerous other countries.

To learn more about Enterococcus faecium, visit Wysong has been using Enterococcus faecium in its companion animal diets for almost three decades.
