WYSONG CONTINUING EDUCATION PROGRAM
We are beginning a new continuing education (CE) program for all Wysong customers. The program is free and permits you to earn credits that can be applied toward Wysong purchases. There is no obligation. If you think you would like to participate, just email us with "CE" in the subject line. We will send the first test, links to study materials, and particulars about how it works. If you are a thinking person and would like to obtain Wysong products free, this will be a fun way to do it.

Foods can pass AAFCO feeding trials and be formulated in such a way that they could cause disease. True. 3. Nutrition is based on four pillars, which consist of biology, chemistry, physics, and genetics. A group of people with degrees in these sciences are the only ones who can determine and manufacture a “100% Complete and Balanced” food. False. Not everything is known in chemistry, physics, biology, and genetics, which are the pillars that nutrition is based on. Therefore, no nutritionists or people degreed in these sciences can claim to know everything about nutrition. Without such complete knowledge a 100% complete processed food is not possible. 4. You should not eat just one type of food or feed your pet just one type of food unless nutritionists have determined that it is “100% Complete and Balanced.” False. There is no such thing as a “100% Complete and Balanced” processed food, and you cannot achieve optimal health for you or your pet by relying solely on such food. 5. There is still much unknown about the physiology, digestion, and biochemistry of animals and the food that they eat. Therefore, it is not possible to make a complete and balanced manufactured food. True. A complete and balanced food requires complete knowledge, but nobody can claim complete knowledge. 6. There are set minimum requirements for all 26 essential nutrients that have been established by scientists, and these requirements do not change. False. The requirements for all 26+ essential nutrients are constantly changing as research unveils new information—and pets suffer diseases from eating “complete and balanced” foods exclusively. 7. There are no more dangers to soy than there are for any legume or grain. Soy is used as a boogeyman ingredient to fool people into thinking that foods without it are superior. True. Pet food marketers demonize soy in order to have something to say about their food that they put no soy in. Soy has many health benefits—if fed in moderation and variety. In controlled studies, soy, although in the food, was left off the contents label. People commented on how excellent the food was. When soy was added to the label--but no actual product change was made--people who were convinced that soy was “bad” complained of all sorts of negative results. 8. Studies prove that 1000 times the recommended concentration of soy in supplements has caused tumors. So I should stop eating soy. False. The study has no correlation to life. Even water in great enough amounts can kill people. The dose makes the poison. 9. Whole soy is the same as soy found in most foods and supplements. False. Most soy in commercial foods is a fraction of soy, such as soy flour. Whole soy contains many benefits that are lost when the bean is fractionated. 10. All doctors and veterinarians are highly trained in nutrition and holistic health. False. Most M.D.s and veterinarians, at most, have one nutrition class in school. That does not make them expert. Only those who gain training after graduation become skilled in the field. The rest usually just parrot what commercial interests propagandize the public with. 11. Whole soy is used as a cheap protein source and has little nutritional value. False. Soy by-products and fractions not whole soy are used as cheap alternatives to protein. Whole soy is an expensive and nutritious ingredient. 12. Optimal health is best achieved by being sure labels have all the nutrients needed. False. Two different products can have the same ingredients lists, but one could be far more nutritious than the other. Simply listing ingredients on a label does not tell how they were processed, how the ingredients were stored, and how fresh the ingredients are. Regulations only permit standard descriptions of each ingredient, therefore, a single ingredient listing can imply many things. Also, the only way to achieve Optimal health is by following a healthy overall lifestyle, including a variety of foods, and not by dissecting individual labels. 13. Use one sentence to describe the meaning of overfed and undernourished The typical American diet provides too much food with too little nutritional value. 14. Drinking water will help stave off appetite and burn calories. True. Water not only fills the stomach, but requires body calories to bring its temperature up to body temperature. 15. A person or pet should never skip a meal, and should be sure all the food groups are present at each meal. False. Not all nutrients need to be eaten at the same meal or even on a daily basis. Nature designed animals and humans to forage for foods, and did not expect us to eat “all four food groups” at every meal. Fasting is beneficial in flushing potential toxins, and giving the digestive system a break. 16. Extra Credit: Name 2 reasons why it is not possible to create a heat processed food that is 100% complete: 1. No single pet food can meet the biochemical individuality of every animal in a population. 2. Science does not have 100% knowledge of anything, including nutrition. 3. Heat processing destroys and alters nutrients, therefore any processed food is either inadequate or toxic.

I have read the test study materials. Tapioca, Raw Deceptions, The Pet Food Recall (Answer must be T in order to proceed with this test.) True. List the foods humans are designed to eat: Fresh whole raw foods such as vegetables, fruits, nuts, eggs, dairy and meats. Criteria: Substance that is digestible and not toxic in its raw state. Tapioca is used in pet foods because it is nutritionally superior to grains such as corn and wheat. False. Tapioca is nutritionally inferior to grains such as corn and wheat. Companies use this claim as a marketing tactic. Please see the Healthier Grains comparison chart (http://www.wysong.net/PDFs/healthiergrains.pdf). Tapioca contains hydrogen cyanide, a potent poison, but is of no concern if used in pet foods because processing reduces it to insignificant levels. False. Tapioca contains cyanogenic glycosides, which are converted by hydrolysis to hydrogen cyanide in the stomach. Processing does not eliminate or reduce the risk of poisoning by hydrogen cyanide from tapioca in pet foods. By using tapioca, a dry extruded pet food can truthfully claim to be raw and starch-free. False. No dry, extruded diet can be considered raw, as extrusion uses high heat and high pressure to gelatinize the starch source (including tapioca) to create a nugget. Since quality pet foods need to be “no corn, wheat, soy, rice, and grain,” tapioca is a significant improvement. False. Exclusion of grains which are nutritionally superior to tapioca does not mean the end product is superior. This is another marketing ploy since it does not address the dangers of feeding ANY heat processed food meal after meal. A food can be raw and still be extruded and canned. False. Canning by definition involves heat, and is required by FDA to prevent botulism (caused by a spore forming pathogen). Extrusion processing also involves high heat and pressure and therefore creates a cooked, not raw food. If a food claims “no grains” that means it must be high in protein and just like raw. False. Most diets that are claimed to have “no grains” often have a lesser quality starch source such as tapioca or potato. “No grains” does not mean there is more meat either. Neither does the “no grains” claim mean that the product is raw. “No grain” foods are cooked just like all other extruded and canned diets. Starch is one of the most dangerous elements in pet foods and it can come from grains, tapioca, and potatoes. True. Starch is dangerous because it displaces protein, converts to sugar and body fat, puts unusual stress on the pancreas, and causes insulin resistance and vulnerability to adult-onset diabetes. Starch comes from grains, tapioca and potatoes. The recent pet food recall due to melamine contamination demonstrates primarily the need to vary the diet and not trust the “100% complete” claim. True. Those pets who followed the Wysong Optimal Health Program did not suffer the toxicity that those who fed a processed diet exclusively did. The lesson is not that there are demons in the pet food industry (yes there are as in any industry), but rather that we can never be assured of safety and therefore should take control of health matters ourselves. If an extruded or canned pet food has “raw” in its name, or claims “raw” ingredients then it is almost like feeding a raw food. False. Both the processes of extrusion and canning eliminate the feasibility of raw ingredients since they both require high heat. If all ingredients were organic, the melamine problem would not have occurred. False. Organic ingredients could have been contaminated. Melamine was added to the gluten ingredients after they were grown and harvested, so even if they were organically grown (free of herbicides and pesticides), they could still have been contaminated by melamine. Organic is a step in the right direction, but it is only one step and does not solve all potential problems. Feeding an organic food meal after meal puts a pet at high risk because variety is the key to health, not organics. The reason the pet food recall happened is because manufacturers were not properly testing their foods. False. Prior to this event, melamine was not a known threat in the food supply and there was no reason for pet food companies to test for it. That is why it caught the industry by surprise. There are thousands of other toxins that could make there way into a food as well. The solution is to follow the Optimal Health Program. To feed pets better, people need to understand percentages and be sure to use only AAFCO tested, complete and balanced, premium foods. False. To feed pets better, people need to turn to the model of nature. There is no such thing as a complete and balanced food as there is no such “complete” knowledge. A rotational diet with a variety of fresh, natural foods is the key to health. The danger of food borne pathogens in raw foods is nowhere near the danger that exists by eating or feeding only heat-processed foods. True. The effects may not be immediate, but the long-range consequences of a steady diet of heat processed foods is the gamut of chronic degenerative diseases pets are plagued with. The pet food recall demonstrated that many brands of pet foods are headed by people who are not health or nutrition experts and are having all their foods made by contract manufacturers. True. It was a revelation to the public that most pet food brands are not even made by the company on the label, and that these companies have marketing people, not science, nutrition, and health experts at the helm. Such companies not only do not have true expertise, they have no true control over manufacturing.
