Supplements

Question:
1. Is it okay to give Contifin with Carvasol...as well as with Cardiril?

2. Since I panicked, and brought Adam to the vet, he is now on Ananapril and Lasix and has a prescription for Pimobendan (but, did not get....no pharmacy here carries it). Can I give Carvasol, Contifin and Cardril while on these drugs...or take him off the drugs eventually, and then use these?

Answer:
Thank you for your letter.

All the Wysong supplements are designed so they can be taken concurrently without creating toxicities--see the Optimal Health Program (http://wysong.net/wohp/).

As for what can happen when prescription meds are taken, that is anybody's guess. They usually have so many contraindications and dangers that it is impossible to predict how they will react in any given body.

If your veterinarian cannot advise you, the best you can do is by monitoring results and adjusting from there.

Question:
I have read on the Nature's Logic site that the vitamins and minerals in pet foods are toxic. Why do you add them to your food.

Answer:
This claim is marketing to try to set themselves apart from others. There is no evidence that the millions of doses of supplements consumed by humans and animals every day cause harm. There is, on the other hand, tens of thousands of scientific and clinical papers and research proving the exact opposite. If such fortification was harmful or unnecessary, why would the entire pet food industry, other than this one marketing company, do it?

Please note this quote from one of Dr. Wysong's books, "You can find articles about how this or that vitamin is toxic or worthless. However, all such reports, upon analysis, are based upon poor science and manipulation of data. This bias in the popular media against supplements is fostered by the medical and pharmacological Industries that wish the public to be dependent upon them. They see self care and supplementation as a threat to their economic success. The media, supported by huge advertising dollars from Big Pharma, omits the very real fact that modern health care is the number one killer. At the same time, there is not one indisputable death caused by the consumption of supplements taken at appropriate levels in either humans or animals."

There are over sixty billion doses of vitamins taken by people every year, yet not one fatality. There are about 160 million pets (dogs, cats, horses, birds) in the US eating vitamin and mineral fortified foods about twice per day, not including the supplements given to animals in addition to their fortified foods, the doses to animals would be over 112 trillion every year. Yet not one fatality as a result!

The ability of any company to market products based upon the opposite to these facts speaks to the power of mythology.

Question:
I would like to know if the Optimal™ vitamins are appropriate for a child almost 11 years old? Also, what other Foundations products would be recommended for her? I am concerned about her eating habits of junk food & other processed foods and would like to get her started on a healthier lifestyle, but I don't know if the Foundation products are for children. Thank you!

Answer:
The Wysong supplements can be taken by children. We would recommend the Optimal™, Probiosyn™, and rotating through the various fatty acid and antioxidant supplements. The nutrient concentrates, such as the Whole Food Concentrate™ (you would have to experiment with mixing this in foods since it is not particularly palatable alone) and Salad™ would also be beneficial (please see the Wysong website for product details).

Please be sure to include healthy lifestyle choices for best results. It's tough with children but your persistence will yield the long term health they will one day thank you for.

Question:
Hi Wysong, my son is 13 and is feeling a little low energy. I have tried only dehydrated food supplements like your Whole Food concentrate powder and Protein drink mix, but also wanted to see if you have any more suggestions for him. I offer a wide fresh diet but any suggestions would be appreciated.

Answer:
It is difficult for us to make a recommendation because we do not know the cause of the problem.

In general, however, following the Optimal Health Program as best you can gives the best chance of covering all the nutritional bases.

To increase energy intake, the Whole Protein Shake, Origins Un-Cereal, Coconut Blend, and Omega-3 Spectrum combined with fruits in shakes will help.

You might consider Dr. Wysong's new book, Living Life As If Thinking Matters for more ideas.

In addition to the Whole Protein Shake and Whole Food Concentrate, we would recommend the Optimal, Probiosyn, and rotating through the various fatty acid and antioxidant supplements.
