Chitin is a polysaccharide found in shellfish, grain, yeast, bananas and mushrooms. It is the second most abundant biomolecule in nature (cellulose being first). Regular consumption of chitin will aid in weight loss, help control cholesterol and blood pressure, and improve digestion. Chitin has anti-pathogenic and anti-oxidant effects, promotes the growth of beneficial intestinal bacteria (probiotics), and may aid in the prevention of neoplasia and polyps. Chitin is also reported to help relieve irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) symptoms.
