The pet food industry abounds with myth, lore, fable, deception, half-truths, incompetence and even fraud. There is good too, but you, the consumer, will have to sort that out. Here is a quick PhD primer that will give you insight very few people have. Your reward for learning will be better health for both you and your pet and the satisfaction of knowing you are not being misguided.
For those who object and say we have no business criticizing, or that we are being self-serving, please note that if you follow Dr. Wysong's advice to a tee you need not feed any commercial pet food, even Wysong. Additionally, we feel it our duty after some 25 years in the industry to give you our educated savvy. As the first short course below is entitled, nutrition is a serious health matter. Wysong is about health and we would be remiss in letting information pass that can jeopardize health. |

This is a work in progress and is by no means complete nor is it meant to just single out those so far on the list. It is intended as an educational resource to help sort through the claims of commercial pet foods. Since nutrition is a serious health matter - as all pet food companies claim it to be - health is the criterion used in these evaluations. Although comparisons may be made to Wysong, simply convincing people to feed Wysong is not the objective of these critiques. As you will learn by further exploring our site, following Dr. Wysong's advice fully "Im Confused" can mean you need not use any commercial products (including Wysong) at all.
Since it is impossible for the public to evaluate the truthfulness of pet food claims on their face, a lot of trust has to be extended to pet food producers. Especially is this so if you are feeding their product at every meal, as most of them ask you to do, and if you are to believe their products create health, as most of them also claim.
Health is indeed at stake, so these are criteria you should use in measuring the competence and truthfulness of producers. If a pet food company cannot say truthful and competent things on their packages, or if they just attempt to scare you away from other brands using myths, how can there be truth inside the packages?
These are some of the questions we evaluate in the following critiques, and are questions you should ask of any producer you wish to extend trust to:
● What are the health credentials of the management of the company?
● Do they manufacture their own foods so they can have unique innovations and control production?
● Do they promote myths that have no basis in science?
● Do they promote the dangerous 100% complete myth, which would have you doing to your pet something you would never do to yourself - feed the same processed food at every meal, day in and day out?
● Do they make statements that show they do not have correct scientific understanding?
● Are the company and the products truly unique, or are they simply a marketing company with another version of products that have already been in the market?
● Do they have a significant history of feeding their products through multiple generations?

The following are current pet food claims used by a variety of manufacturers and marketers. They are followed by critiques using the best scientific and logical information we can find and with the assumption that health is the number one objective in pet feeding.
A person could easily conclude--if the arguments in the critiques are correct-- that at best such claims demonstrate incompetence. At worst, they are a deliberate attempt to deceive consumers. The consequences for those who fall prey is to be misled from the important understandings of health and how to achieve it.
Pet health and feeding is not a matter of finding the one magic commercial food--particularly one with misleading claims--and feeding it continuously. Health is best achieved by following the natural-scientific-logical principles in the Optimal Health Program.
